Connie Hedegaard, the EU Commissioner for Climate Action, is a keen cyclist. When she was minister in Denmark and now as a EU Commissioner in Brussels, she uses her bicycle to and from work. To the magazine ”Wheelpaper” she said about cycling in Brussels: ”A bike takes me faster to my destination, four kilometers away, than a car could”.
The ”Wheelpaper” was published in connection with the recent held conference Velo-city Global 2010 in Copenhagen. I was asked to photograph Connie Hedegaard cycling in the Brussels traffic. Unfortunately she could not use her own bicycle. It had been stolen a couple of days earlier. Instead she borrowed one from the commissions own fleet bicycles. The European Commission encourage its functionaries to use them for going to meetings.
The photo assignment went well, with me and her cycling around, making pictures from different venues.
