2008: Year of Street photography
Street photography is a difficult discipline at least for me. For the last many years I was afraid of approaching people on the street and take pictures of them. I kept it safe and stayed away. It’s like an actor that suddenly gets scared of performing in a theatre full of people. The same it was for me and photography on the streets.
2008 was different. Slowly I went to the streets. The years up to have been difficult but this year I just said, never mind. I was more in balance as a person. When I went out with my camera I just tried to be honest towards myself and accept the invisible invitation people gave me. Some of them I never spoke with even I was nearly touching them with my lens. Others I had a nice conversation with. They all made my day, a happy and pleasant day. So I just thank them.

In October I went out on my bicycle to take pictures. In the nearby park of my editorial office these men sit on the benches everyday playing cards with each other. I have seen them doing it for years, but never taken any pictures before this very day. Photo: © Erik Luntang
Ther very same day in another park of Brussels I heard some jazz music from inside the park. Every Tuesday if the weather behaves the musicians come and play in the afternoon, with special permission from the mayor. Photo: © Erik Luntang
